ARE THEY REALLY READY?

That’sPass Baton the question a lot of working professional traditionalists and baby boomers are asking themselves and their retirement- age peers regarding abdicating their management and leadership positions to millennials. Some traditionalists and baby boomers are still in the workforce due to unforeseen economic circumstances (collapse of their 401K ‘nest egg’) and trying to recoup more income towards a decent retirement. While others don’t feel completely comfortable relinquishing their management and leadership positions over to millennials due to what they don’t see – individual initiative, sense of commitment and accountability. Rather they see someone that requires a constant stream of feedback, with mobile device addiction and the demand for collaborative work/life balance woven into their role immediacy road map to quick success.

Yes, millennials may outnumber GenX and GenY (population wise), and yes millennials may hold more college degrees, but they will require some mentoring to truly bring them into the fold, understand their role’s purpose, apply learned theory to real work experience to be successful managers and leaders.

A company’s culture can still be built around the fundamentals and strong business basics. Providing a sense of purpose and communicating the employees’ role in the big picture is a key factor for job acceptance and personal satisfaction.

It’s not a matter of ‘paying your dues.’ Instead it’s a case for ‘proving yourself’.
