Communication is the two-way activity of conveying or imparting information through the exchange of opinions, messages, or ideas – either orally (through speech), or visually (through writing, Global Communicationgraphics, signals, or behavior).

Effective communication takes planning. Some elements of an effective communication plan include:

  • Analysis – examination of the situation, the audience and the message to be delivered. Performing an analysis enables an understanding of the need and provides the capability of the shaping the message to the audience.
  • Objective(s) – ensures the message is focused on the essentials to achieve desired outcome.
  • Message – key point(s) that are clear, concise and defined.
  • Audience – anyone/everyone that has a ‘need to know,’ (key stakeholders).
  • Resources – tools and actions required to deliver the message.
  • Evaluation – feedback on effectiveness of message.

Having an effective communication plan in place is essential, especially for good project management.
