QUALITY OF CHARACTER

What is Character?

Character is the inward values that determine outward actions. Character is the possession of qualities that develop and endure over time leading to one’s personal reputation.

Many believe that much of a person’s character is formed early in life. However, knowing exactly when or how much is harder to determine. Observing a person’s behavior is an indication of their character.

Some basic qualities of a good reputation are: trustworthy, accountable, respectful, fair and caring.

How does character impact leadership?

Who is a quality person? Who has character?

When you think of a person of quality or character, who comes to mind? Someone like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, or Pope Francis?

What example or standard are they compared to? What qualities or traits did/do they possess that make them a person of character? (Vision, determination, self-discipline, vigor, initiative?)

To produce quality of any kind it takes hard work, discipline, time and patience. An organization needs leaders with quality of character. Followers are attracted to leaders that will guide them to the future and show that they can be trusted.
